Terrier Breeds

For generations Terrier Breeds have been capturing the hearts of dog lovers around the world. These dogs are bold and dauntless, and some of the older breeds were used for hunting, working on farms, and even in the old coal mines. Some owners have even used them for protection of property as well. After many generations of breeding, there are now many different types of Terrier Breeds out there. Just a few of them include the following:

- Australian Terriers
- Airedale Terriers
- Jack Russell Terriers
- Manchester Terriers
- Irish Terriers
- Miniature Schnauzers
- Scottish Terrier Dogs
- Welsh Terriers

When it comes to Terrier Breeds, there are many different shapes and sizes among these breeds of dogs. There are very large Terriers, such as the Airedale Terrier, and there are also some quite small ones as well, such as the Jack Russell Terrier. Even though they may vary in size, these breeds of dogs are all rather feisty and energetic as well. Most of them do not tolerate other animals very well either, even other dogs. While they do make great pets, they usually need an owner with equal energy and determination to keep up.

Terrier Breeds have special coats that need special grooming as well. Most of their coats are quite wiry, and it takes special grooming techniques to keep their coats looking good. Wiring is one special technique of grooming that is used on this breed of dogs.

There are several different groups of Terriers out there. The following are a few of the groups that Terriers fall into:

- Fighting Terriers – Originally these dogs were originally a mixed breed including terriers and bulldogs. One example of this type of dog is the Bull Terrier. These dogs, while originally used for fighting can be great pets, and it is sad that some criminals still use them in illegal dog fights.
- Show Terriers – These dogs are not used for working, but they are bred to either be companions or to be used in the show ring. They make great pets and they also often perform in dog agility contests as well.
- Toy Terriers – These are smaller terriers that were bred down. A couple of dogs included in this group include the Yorkshire Terrier and the English Toy Terrier
- Working Terriers – Working or hunting Terriers are still used today for hunting and were at one time often used for hunting foxes.

As you can see, there are many different types of Terrier Breeds out there. While many of them are alike in personality, they all are unique. Here you can learn more about different Terrier Breeds, how to take care of them, and great training tips as well.
